*Juventus and AC Milan remain even at the top of Serie A*
---------------------------------------------------------
TURIN, Italy (Ticker) - Juventus and AC Milan were both
victorious over the weekend as the two teams stayed even with
each other at the top of the Italian Serie A standings.
Alessandro Del Piero knocked in his 11th goal of the season in
the 58th minute to lift Juventus to a 1-0 victory over Reggina,
its fifth consecutive win. Del Piero's score made up for the
Italian international's failure to to score three minutes
earlier when he struck the post.
However, Jonathan Zebina delivered a cross that Zlatan
Ibrahimavic coraled and dished to Del Piero who slotted the ball
home.
Defending champion AC kept pace with a 2-0 win at struggling AS
Roma. Hernan Crespo opened the scoring with his 16th goal in
his last 21 games - in all competitions - with a header in the
54th minute. The Argentinian has 10 goals in Serie A games this
season.
Seven minutes later Andrea Pirlo's penalty kick capped the
scoring as Roma, which has lost four in a row, lost the debut of
interim coach Bruno Conti.
Both AC and Juventus have 66 points this season, with Milan
holding the tie breaker on goal differential by a 32-31 margin.
Inter Milan and Udinese took advantage of Sampdoria's
surprising, 2-1, home loss at last-place Atalanta to move into
the position for spots in next season's UEFA Champions League.
Inter (50 points) edged Fiorentina, 3-2, to move into third
place and David Di Michele's two goals lifted Udinese (48) to a
2-1 triumph over Lecce. Sampdoria is just one point behind
Udinese for fourth place - the last available Champions League
position awarded to an Italian club.
The other results from the weekend; Chievo Verona topped
Brescia, 2-1; Livorno and Cagliari tied, 3-3, as did Parma and
Palermo; Messina and Bologna tied, 0-0; and Siena edged Lazio,
1-0.
