After a promising start to the season, Dortmund struggled big time
over the past months. After eight winless games, they reassured their
fans by eliminating Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA CUP and humiliating
Hertha Berlin 4-0 shortly before Christmas...Many companies stopped
selling Dortmund jerseys at the beginning of January, suspecting
them to contain health-damaging substances. After negative tests,
the jerseys were sold again... No transfers have been made during the
winter break... Dortmund does not appear to be in top form just yet,
as blowout losses (1-3 vs. Schalke; 0-4 vs. Leverkusen) at the Gazi-Cup
in Turkey indicate. Coach Skibbe was not pleased with the performances
and said the team had a lot of work to do before the opener against
Kaiserslautern... Injuries continue to hurt Borussia, especially on
offense. Team leader Andreas Moeller will miss the next four weeks
with a leg injury and Giuseppe Reina is plagued by a sore foot and
listed as doubtful. Nigerians Otto Addo and Victor Ikpeba are still
playing in the African Nations Cup, leaving Ibrahim Tanko and Heiko
Herrlich as the likely starting forwards.
