#Event Description and Format -- Softball#

Softball makes its second Olympic appearance and will be
competed between September 17-26 at the Softball Center. 

The competition, solely for women, will be an eight-team,
round-robin format with the top four teams advancing to the
medal round. 

The eight teams in the tournament are the United States,
Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Cuba, China, Canada and Japan.
