#Event Description and Format -- Diving#

Men and women divers at the Olympics will compete in platform
and springboard in both individual and synchronized
events. Diving begins September 22 and all events will be
held at the Sydney International Aquatic Center. 

Both men and women contest the three-meter springboard and
10-meter platform. The springboard requires the divers to use
the board to aid height, while the platform is a static, wider
board. 

Competitions consist of a preliminary round, with the top
finishers advancing to the finals. 

The synchronized events are making their Olympic debuts.  On the
springboard, divers dive off adjacent boards at the same time,
whereas on the platform, they dive off the same platform.
