#Event Description and Format -- Baseball#

The Olympic baseball tournament consists of eight teams
competing in a round-robin format.  Games will be played at the
Sydney Baseball Center and Sydney Baseball Stadium. 

Each team will play the other seven teams once each in the
preliminary round, and the top four teams will advance to the
medal round.  The winners of the semifinal games will meet for
the gold medal on September 27, while the semifinal losers will
play for the bronze medal. 

The competition begins on September 17.  Participating teams are
the United States, Cuba, South Africa, Japan, Italy, South
Korea, Australia and the Netherlands.
