Closing ceremonies: Celine Dion and Rod Stewart sing, but not as a duet. Each has an hour to wow the crowd and Queen Elizabeth, who officially will close the Games. Team Canada: 277 athletes in all 18 sports. Canada's Flagbearer: Swimmer Marianne Limpert of Fredericton. Mascots: For Canada it's an as-of-yet un-named goose. For Malaysia it's Wira, an orang-utan. 1994 Games: Victoria hosted the Games and Canada won 128 medals, second to Australia. Canada is third all-time behind England and Australia. New team sports: cricket, field hockey, netball and rugby. Leading the field: Canada is considered a strength in boxing, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, 10-pin bowling, and cycling. TV: CBC will televise 37 hours in nightly highlights packages. The network will focus on aquatics, athletics, boxing, cycling and artistic gymnastics, showing highlights of other events. |
