Canadian Idol Ryan Malcolm added to cycling opening ceremonies entertainment program!

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton 2003 World Cycling Festival is delighted to announce the addition of Ryan Malcolm, the winner of the Canadian Idol contest to an already jam-packed Opening Ceremonies program. Malcolm was selected as the winner of the hugely popular Canadian Idol talent contest, from over 15,000 entries. Malcolm joins an already outstanding program that includes Tom Cochrane, Sass Jordan and Jeff Healey Band, as well as many top local performers.

Cycling enthusiasts and Hamiltonians are invited to buy their tickets now for the Hamilton 2003 World Cycling Festival Opening Ceremonies. The Opening Ceremonies will kickoff an exciting week in Hamilton, with men's and women's cyclists from around the globe competing for the Road World Championship in the time trial and road race. The racing will be complemented by a full schedule of Festival events that will showcase Canadian culture and offer something for everyone. The Opening Ceremonies will be staged on Sunday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum and will appeal to families with tickets only $10.00 for Adults and $5.00 for Children (14 and under), plus service charges.

The Opening Ceremonies feature an outstanding roster of entertainment showcasing top local and Canadian talent. The first half of the show will be comprised of the following lineup of local entertainers - Dave Murphy Band, Hamilton Police Pipe Band, the Schiehallion Dancers, soloist Victoria Boland, The Balkan Strings and Ethnic Dancers, Cirque Eloize, The Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band, Neil Wadhvana, Andrea Henry, and a Native Welcome with the Kanata Dancers, as well as appearances from Canadian cycling legends. The middle portion of the Opening Ceremonies will be the official protocol with speeches and greetings from dignitaries and politicians. Capping off what should be a memorable evening will be performances from international recording artists Tom Cochrane, Sass Jordan and the Jeff Healey Band, as well as Ryan Malcolm.

Tickets for the Opening Ceremonies are on sale through Ticketmaster. The Hamilton 2003 Festival will be a week-long Celebration of Canadian Culture from October 5 to 12, complementing the Road World Cycling Championships. Festival Events include the Opening Ceremonies on October 5, the Steamwhistle "Bikes, Bands & Beer Party" at Copps Coliseum Exhibition Hall on October 9, a sold-out Gala Dinner on October 10, Oktoberfest at Copps Coliseum Exhibition Hall on October 11, an Aboriginal Festival at Bayfront Park, the Downtown and International Village BIAs' "Rib Row", Hamilton Regional Arts Council's and Native Indian/Inuit Photographers' Association Rooftop Art & Music Festival at Jackson Square, and "Mohawk In Motion" at Mohawk College.
