1. Ticket FAQ's
How do I get ticket information? ? You can visit the official Hamilton 2003 Web site at www.hamilton2003.com. To purchase your tickets, call Ticketmaser, 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 905-527-7666 (Hamilton), 416-870-8000 (Toronto), or 613-755-1111 (Ottawa - bilingual operators) or visit Ticketmaster's web site www.ticketmaster.ca.
What are the prices of tickets? Currently, both single day and week passes are now available for the Gold Grandstand and Silver Standing areas. Single Day Race Passes will be available in August 2003, should tickets still remain, following the sale of the Week Passes. The following are the Ticket Prices for the 2003 Road World Cycling Championships (all prices listed are in Canadian dollars):

When do tickets go on sale? Tickets are available NOW! The Official Ticket Launch took place on April 9th, 2003 @ 10AM. Tickets are available while they last.
Is there a limit to how many tickets I can buy? No
What methods of payment can I choose from to reserve my tickets? For all advance sales, Cash, Money Orders in Canadian funds, American Express, MasterCard, VISA, Diners Club and Sears will be accepted. Ticketmaster.ca accepts the following payment methods: American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club and Sears. Payment by Debit Cards is not accepted.
How do I collect my tickets once I order them? Tickets purchased via phone or internet will be mailed to an address of your choice. If the tickets are ordered two weeks before the race, those tickets will be left under your name at a ticket pick-up (will call) location, proper identification will be required to claim the tickets.
I only want to attend certain races. Can I get tickets for specific races? Currently, tickets are being sold for Week Passes ONLY (Tuesday - Sunday). This includes all races for the Time Trials and Road Races, for the five different classifications: elite men and women, junior men and women, and Under 23 men. Single Day passes will ONLY be made available in August 2003 depending on the sales of the week passes. You will not be guaranteed a single day pass should you choose to delay purchase until August. If you would like to be notified in advance that single day race passes are available, please call our office (905-529-2003) or email info@hamilton2003.com. We will file your contact information and notify you in advance of Single Day Race Passes availability.
If I buy tickets but find I can't use them, is there a way to sell them back closer to the event or during it? As stated through Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket handler of the Hamilton 2003 Road World Championships: Refunds and Exchanges. Before purchasing tickets, carefully review your event and seat selection. Policies set forth by our clients, including venues, teams and theatres, prohibit ticketmaster.ca from issuing exchanges or refunds after a ticket has been purchased. Click here for detailed information regarding refunds and exchanges. You can sell your tickets to a willing buyer for the same price (or less) that you purchased them for. Please read the following question for provincial and local laws governing the resale of tickets.
Is there any reason why I should not buy or sell tickets on the black market? Under provincial and local laws, "scalping" tickets for an event, that is the resale of tickets above the face value, is considered an offence and violators may be prosecuted.
What's to stop me entering a ground on my ticket, and then passing it back through the fence so that my friend/s can enter on the same ticket? There will be designated reserved grandstands in certain areas on the race course (start/finish area) and reserved standing areas, which will require a ticket for admission. The remainder of the course will not require a ticket for admission. Reserved grandstand areas will be staffed by ushers and security to prevent such occurrences.
Does my ticket entitle me to parking facilities at the ground? There are specific parking facilities for race spectators, which will have shuttles operating to transport fans to the race course. Spectators will receive information on the location of these parking facilities with their tickets. There are no parking facilities specifically designated for race spectators within walking distance of the course however there are parking lots for the general public that spectators may try to access at their own risk.
2. General Questions
What's the average temperature in Hamilton at the time of each event? On average, Hamilton records an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius in the month of June (Nationals), and an average temperature of 9 degrees Celsius during the month of October (Worlds).
How do riders qualify to be a competitor at the World Road Cycling Championships? Based on a country's world ranking the UCI, Union Cycliste Internationale / International Cycling Union, designates the numbers of riders a country may send to the competition to a maximum of twelve. The national federation of each country then selects their team.
How many athletes are competing at the Championships? Some 750 athletes from 50 countries are expected to attend the Hamilton 2003 Road World Cycling Championships.
Are these professional cyclists or amateur cyclists? The cyclists are predominantly amateur cyclists; however the elite men's race on Sunday October 12th is a professional race.
How many races take place during the event? At the Worlds event (October) only the Individual time trial and Road race disciplines will be contested. There are 5 age categories for a total of 10 races over 6 days. Please refer to the www.hamilton2003.com Web site for further details, or contact the Organizing Committee office (905-529-2003) to have information mailed out.
Is this an annual event? Yes.
Where was it held last year? Zolder, Belgium
Who won each event last year? There are ten different events held during the World Championships - Time Trial and Road Race for Elite Men, Under 23 Men, Junior Men, Elite Women and Junior Women. Mario Cipollini of Italy won the 256km Elite Men's Event in 5:30:03 and Susanne Ljungskog of Sweden won the 128km Elite Women's Event 2:59:15. A full list of winners is available at www.uci.ch.
Where will this event be staged? The event will start and finish in front of Hamilton City Hall on Main Street and take place on the streets of Hamilton. A brochure with all relevant race information will be available to the community in early February. This information is also available on the official Hamilton 2003 Cycling Championships Web site (www.hamilton2003.com).
What will this event mean for Hamilton? The event will bring to Hamilton 750 athletes from 50 countries, in excess of 800 media from around the world and 150,000 estimated spectators over the course of the week will visit Hamilton and region. The international television audience is estimated to be 350 million people, the 2nd largest international television audience for a sporting event behind only the Super Bowl in 2003..
When is the event taking place? Road World Cycling Championships (October 6-12, 2003). For details on race times, see the schedule published in our brochure or on the Hamilton 2003 Web site (www.hamilton2003.com).
What countries/teams will be represented? As many as 750 athletes are expected from some 50 countries around the world.
Will food and beverage vendors be present along the race courses? Yes, food and beverage locations (accessible at no charge to the public) will be located around the course. Specifically, larger "Food courts" and beverage areas will be located (1) behind City Hall in the parking lot and (2) at Southam Park at the top of the Claremont climb.
Will bathroom facilities be accessible to the spectators along the race courses? Yes, portable washroom facilities will be located around the course and in particular in ticketed areas at the Start/Finish Line and at the two spectator locations at Beckett Drive and Claremont Drive.
What are the lengths of each race course? Short Time Trial Course = 15.4km; Long Time Trial Course = 20.8km; Road Race Course = 12.4km. Cyclists will ride a number of laps of each course, depending on the category in which they're competing. Please see maps on the Hamilton 2003 Web site for detailed information. Where is the championship/award ceremony located? The presentation of the medals and the rainbow jersey, which is presented by UCI to the world champion in each event, will take place near the start/finish area at Hamilton City Hall.
What opportunities are there to meet the cyclists? That is unknown at this time It is the intention of Hamilton 2003 to include the public in as many race-related events as possible, most notably the Festival planned for the week of the October races, which may include participation from the cyclists. Can the public attend any banquets/functions/meetings related to this event during the week of the races (Cost)? Yes. It is the intention of Hamilton 2003 to include the public in as many race-related events as possible; most notably the Festival planned for the week of the October races. What Canadian cyclists will be competing at the event(s)? The Canadian team will be announced at some point following the Tim Hortons Road Nationals, which will be held June 27 to 29 in Hamilton.
Will Lance Armstrong be competing? Many of the cyclists competing at the worlds, including Lance Armstrong will not be announced or finalized until late in the summer. Each country will announce their team and announcements will be made at the appropriate time in the media. Please visit the official Web site www.hamilton2003.com for updates.

6. Volunteer FAQ's
How many volunteers will be needed? The Organizing Committee has estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 volunteers will be required for the Road World Championships. Preference for volunteer positions at Worlds will be given to those who have participated as a volunteer at the Canadians in June.
Will accommodations and expenses (food, transportation, flights) be provided/covered for foreign volunteers? Volunteers with Hamilton 2003 will be provided with food during their shift during the Championships. Hamilton 2003 welcomes volunteers from out of town; however volunteers from outside Hamilton will be responsible for their own travel expenses.
What positions can be filled by volunteers?
Volunteers will be required in many different areas:

Will volunteers receive a letter or some form of recognition for being part of the event(s)?
All volunteers will receive a package, which will include clothing and food during their shifts.
What's the commitment level for the volunteers in terms of number of hours each day?
To be a volunteer at the Hamilton 2003 Road World Championships, we ask that the volunteers be able to make an 8 hour minimum commitment to be an ÒofficialÓ volunteer. Typically, daily shifts are broken down into approx. 4-6 hours in duration.
