Importance of Canadian National Championships in relation to the Major Events of 2003
Special note:
Please note that in no category of able-bodied or disabled athletes does the 2003 National Champion qualify directly for the 2004 Olympics or the 2004 Paralympics.
Elite Men's Road Race:
Following nationals a pool of up to eight athletes will be identified and the final team for the Road Worlds will be selected from this pool of athletes. This pool of athletes will be monitored throughout the rest of the season and once our quota is confirmed by the UCI on August 15th, the CCA will announce their final team in September, after an assessment of performances at international events.
The National Road Champion is automatically selected to the Canadian team for the Road World Championships.
Elite Men's Time Trial:
The National Time Trial Champion is automatically selected to compete in this event at the World Championships. A second rider will be named in September.
Elite Women's Road Race:

Two riders will be selected from the four riders that are selected to compete in the Road Race.

For all categories of athletes with a disability:
The National Championships will be used to select athletes to compete at the International Blind Sports Association World Championships in Quebec City in August 2003 and/or the International Paralympic Committee Pan American Cycling Cup in New York City in July 2003. In most categories, the National Road Race Champion and the National Time Trial Champion will be selected to participate in either one or both of the above-mentioned events, provided minimum time standards are achieved, as established by the Head Coach of the handi-sport program.
