![]() Celebrating Excellence in SportThe Spirit of Sport Foundation and its partners - Athletes CAN, the Canada Games Council, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada - welcome you to the 27th Annual Canadian Sport Awards. These Awards are an opportunity to recognize the achievements of Canada's best amateur athletes, and to showcase those whose support of amateur sport makes these achievements possible. We are proud to host these Awards and we wish all our guests an enjoyable and inspiring evening.Athletes CANAthletes CAN is the national organization representing all national team athletes. Founded in 1992, its mission is to work with others in leadership, advocacy and education to ensure a fair, responsive and supportive system for Canadian athletes. In fulfilling this mission, Athletes CAN is committed to accountability, equity, inclusiveness and mutual respect. In conjunction with its corporate partners, Athletes CAN provides important programs and services to amateur athletes including legal assistance, a quarterly newsletter, an annual forum for information exchange, an athlete bursary fund, and several programs to develop and promote athlete leadership.Canada Games CouncilThe Canada Games Council is a non-profit organization responsible for the development of the Canada Games, Canada's largest ongoing multi-sport event. The Council develops policies and procedures to guide the preparation and staging of the Canada Games, and ensures that the Games play an important role in Canadian sport development. The next Canada Summer Games will be held in the London, Ontario in August, 2001 and the next Canada Winter Games will be staged in Bathurst-Campbellton, N.B., in February, 2003.Canadian Centre for Ethics in SportThe Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport is a national, non-profit organization committed to a fair and ethical sport system through the promotion of drug-free sport, equity, fair play, safety and non-violence. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport incorporates the mission, mandate and activities of the former Canadian Centre for Drug-Free Sport and Fair Play Canada, and the organization works closely with sport organizations, athletes, coaches and others to promote and strengthen the positive values and rewarding experiences of sport.Commonwealth Games Association of CanadaThe Commonwealth Games Association of Canada supports sport as a tool for development within the Commonwealth in two main areas - the Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Sport Development Program. During the 70-year history of the Commonwealth Games, Canadians have enjoyed many successes, consistently ranking among the top countries in medal count and in records broken. Equally important to Canada is the outstanding reputation of our athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers as ambassadors of fair play-the key elements of the Commonwealth Games. At the community level, the Commonwealth Sport Development Program is building an enviable record of success through innovative partnerships and initiatives in Southern Africa and the Eastern Caribbean. |
