Lakers sign Ukrainian forward
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Stanislav Medvedenko, a 6-foot-10 forward who was a member of the Ukrainian National Team since 1998, signed a contract with the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
Medvedenko, 21, has played professionally in both the Ukraine and Lithuania, most recently averaging 20.0 points and 6.1 rebounds in eight games, helping lead BC Kiev to the Northern European Basketball League championship.
Medvedenko is the first European-born player to sign with the Lakers since Vlade Divac in 1989.
