SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Philadelphia Phantoms goaltender Maxime Ouellet has been named the AHL Rookie of the Month for November. In nine appearances, Ouellet earned four victories and five ties and registered a 2.20 GAA, helping the Phantoms to a 5-0-6-1 record on the month.
The 20-year-old Ouellet (wuh-LEHT) started November with 36 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at Houston on Nov. 2. He turned aside 39 shots in another 3-2 overtime victory, vs. Hershey on Nov. 21, and made 32 saves in a 4-1 win over the Bears on Nov. 24. Ouellet stopped 267 of 288 shots on the month (.927), including all 20 shots over eight overtime periods.
In recognition of his accomplishment, Ouellet will be presented with an etched crystal trophy by the AHL prior to an upcoming game.
Ouellet was a first-round pick (22nd overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Beauport, Que., played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, earning a Second Team All-Star berth three times. He won a league-high 40 games in 1998-99, earning the Jacques Plante Trophy for fewest goals against in the QMJHL. Ouellet made his NHL debut with the Flyers at age 19, appearing in two games last season.
