Hamilton center Brian Swanson named Sher-wood AHL Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs center Brian Swanson has been named the Sher-Wood AHL
Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 2, 2001. In four games last week, Swanson recorded four goals and four assists as Hamilton
remained the hottest team in the AHL.
Swanson began the week with a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over Rochester on Wednesday. On Friday night, he scored two more
goals and added an assist, becoming the leading scorer in Bulldogs history during a 6-3 win at Cleveland. Swanson added three assists in Saturday's 4-3
overtime win over the Barons before being held scoreless for the first time since Oct. 28 during Sunday's 2-2 tie with Cleveland.
Swanson, 25, leads the American Hockey League in goals (18), points (36) and plus/minus (+23) this season, his third as a professional. The native of Eagle
River, Alaska, racked up 30 points during his 14-game scoring streak, the longest such streak in the league this season. He has led the Bulldogs into first place in
the Eastern Conference, picking up 16 goals, 27 points and a +23 rating in 13 contests during the month of November alone while Hamilton has gone 12-1-2 in
its last 15 outings.
In recognition of his achievement, Swanson will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In
addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Stoney Creek Minor Hockey Association of Stoney Creek, Ont., in Swanson's name.
Drafted in 1994 by San Jose, Swanson has compiled 55 goals and 87 assists for 142 points in 146 career AHL games with Hamilton and Hartford. He starred at
Colorado College for four seasons (1995-99), where he was named a WCHA First Team All-Star three times and an NCAA West First Team All-American as a
senior.
Other players nominated for Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week include Chicago goaltender Pasi Nurminen, Cincinnati left wing Travis Brigley, Cleveland
defenseman Jesse Fibiger, Grand Rapids center Kip Miller, Houston center Cory Larose, Lowell right wing Jeff Heerema, Manchester goaltender Travis Scott,
