Marty Murray Chat

Manny-Boy: Marty. Being captain and a great leader. What advice will you give your younger teammates about the pressures of a Calder Cup final, having been to the final in '98 vs. the Phantoms?

Marty Murray: I think that it's a great time of year. I will tell them just to enjoy the moment. The guys have really come along way throughout the year as far as maturing and I think that it has been real positive the way guys have matured. And I think it's real important for guys to enjoy the experience and the challenge.

Cassie: What do you feel is your best skill in the game of hockey? Best of luck in the Calder Cup Finals!

Marty Murray: I think that I'm a bit older and I have played in this league for a while. I think that past experience will help me. I think that my role growing up has been as a scorer so that is how I will help the team.

short fat bald guy with a big belly: Marty, of all the players that you have played with, which one has provided the most fun for you on and off of the ice?

Marty Murray: It's Todd Hlushko. I played with him during for seasons out of my six years pro. He always surprises me with a lot of things. It has been a lot of memories and a lot of laughs. His horse races and fake teeth were fun.

Reddog: Hi Marty congrats on the good season. Marty besides Todd Daniels who are some of your hockey Idols.

Marty Murray: You'll always be number one reddog but growing up I definitely liked Wayne Gretzky. I had the opportunity to play one game against him and it was a great experience. In this day you have to admire Mario Lemieux for what he has done since he has come back. I also really enjoy watching Forsberg and Sakic.

Chris Daye: Hey Marty I think your a great captain and i was wondering at what point this year did you realize that this team was one of the best team in the league?

Marty Murray: I think there was numerous times throughout the year that we face adversity, whether it be guys getting called up or having players injured and you could see that everybody just stepped up there play when we needed them. That was when I saw it was when guys needed to be counted on that was when they were at their best.

Nick Forsyth: Hey marty this is Nick Forsyth from pierson. How are you doing in the playoffs? WE are done hockey. I played in the Directors Cup. How are you and Andrea? How do you like Saint John? I heard this from Red Dog. Who is on your line? Bye

Marty Murray: I am playing on a line with Sergei Varlamov and Jason Botterill. Thanks for the note Nick and I will see you when I get home.

gin: marty, i am a big fan of yours, i have followed your career from brandon. How do you deal with being much smaller than most opposing players? Good Luck in the finals.

Marty Murray: I think that you just have to be on your toes and be aware of where your teammates and opponents are on the ice. A lot of times you just have to outwit your opponents because it is kind of hard to out muscle them.

Pat, the #1 Flames fan.: How do you feel to have someone have you as their favorite player? 'Cause that someone is me! I'm going to game 6 & 7 so when you win, do it in 6 or 7.

Marty Murray: It's better to be cheered than booed. So I guess I have been in Saint John for four years and am kind of recognizable. It's good to have your friends behind and wishing you to do well.

flames fanatic: Hey Marty, great season.Did it take very long for u to get used to playing on the line with Varly and Botterill?

Marty Murray: No. I think that we compliment each other pretty well. Botts is a big guy and a good forechecker who creates a lot of space for Varly and I. And Varly's just one of those natural goal scorers and I guess it's just kind of my job to get the puck to him.

kate : hi, i am a big fan and i am nervous for tomorrow night i was just wondering if you are nervous! GOOD LUCK

Marty Murray: I think it's natural to be a little nervous. It's that time of year where it's do-or-die. All forty players on the ice will have a little nerves, it's just a natural emotion.

Ivo Jaschick: Hi Marty! My name is Ivo, I am from Cologne and we made an interview at the season opener in Calgary. Where will you play next season. Will you try it (NHL) again next season or will you come to the >HAIE> of Koeln? Thanks Ivo

Marty Murray: I think that everything is up in the air right now. My dream is still to play in the NHL but I will certainly take the time in the summer to go over my options I really enjoyed my time in Germany.

Brenda Midura : Marty, You guys have pretty much breezed by the first three rounds. Do you think Wilkes-Barre is going to be tough to beat compared to the rest? I am a big Flames fan from Springfield. The best of luck in your quest for the Cup.

Marty Murray: I think that Wilkes-Barre is here for a reason. Obviously they have played some good hockey. We expect a real tough series. Even though the last couple of series, we only lost two games out of ten, they were tougher than they appeared may have indicated.

Dumba (Jim Spencer ): Looking ahead to the future for Marty Murray. Is being a free agent at the end of this season a positive situation for you to be in.

Marty Murray: I think so. There's thirty teams in the NHL now. There are a lot of teams out there looking to make changes. Especially going this far into the playoffs and hopefully winning the Calder Cup. It can only help everybody as individuals. I wish you and Penny all the best in Cyprus and look forward to seeing you somewhere down the road.

Marty Murray: I would like to thank everybody for supporting our hockey club. Our team is real excited about the next two weeks. Our goal is to bring the Calder Cup to Saint John and we have a real healthy attitude in the dressing room right now. Thanks for the good luck note - Leon. We'll look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

Moderator: SLAM! Sports and the AHL would like to thank Marty for taking the time out of his busy schedule to enter the chat room. Please keep an eye on theAHL.com for future chats.
