Stéphane Rochon knows there's only way to escape the shadow of teammate
Jean-Luc Brassard. Win the Olympic gold medal. And he'll enter
the Salt Lake City Games as one of the top contenders in men's moguls.
Last season, with Brassard on the sidelines, Rochon had a golden opportunity to move into the spotlight but reached the medal podium only
once in international competition in moguls. He won bronze at the world championships in Whistler. He was sixth overall on the World Cup circuit
after placing second the previous season.
"I feel I was consistent all season, but my results weren't what people expected," said Rochon. "There are so many good skiers out there that
there's little room for error."
He has five career World Cup victories and 19 medals overall. He was eighth at the Nagano Olympics.
Rochon possesses the best turning skills in the world and his jumping abilities have improved greatly the past few seasons. He is also a
top-ranked water skier and competed this summer at the Canadian wakeboard championships.
