Philippe Marois pulled off a major upset on the final day of the Olympic trials in long track speed skating in December when he upset two-time world championship medallist Jason Parker for the last spot in the men's 1,500 metres.
Marois skated the race of his life improving his personal best time by 9/10ths of a second.
He has enjoyed plenty of international success at the junior level. He competed four times at the world junior championships (1997-2000) and posted three top-10 finishes including a fourth in the 3,000 metres at the 2000 world juniors.
Marois also holds the Canadian junior records in the 1,500, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 metres.
