"Salt Lake here I come." That was Anne-Marie Lefrancois's opening words after she placed 12th in the women's downhill at the World Cup stop at Lake Louise in November. The result assured her a berth on the 2002 Olympic team.

Lefrancois was confident all along she could achieve her lifelong dream. "I had self-assurance," said Lefrancois. "I was overjoyed to make the team but not surprised. I've had a great pre-season with my training and I'm way ahead of last year's pace"

It's been a long and arduous road for Lefrancois. She suffered various injuries between 1997 and 1999 including a broken ankle, a herniated disk that wiped out the entire 1997-1998 season and a broken hand in 1999.

She was on the Noram circuit during the 1999-2000 campaign and she was even advised to consider quitting the sport. However she persevered and last season earned her first of two required Olympic qualifying result placing 12th at a World Cup at St. Moritz.
