Ryan Johnson earned a berth on the Canadian team when Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau went down with a neck injury in January at a World Cup event in France. Johnson had lost a battle for the fourth and final spot on the team to Scott Bellavance at that same World Cup event. However when it became clear that Rousseau's injury was very serious, Johnson was next in line.

So far this season, Johnson has struggled for the main part. He did win one bronze medal this season, again at that World Cup in France in January. It was his first World Cup medal in five years. At the 19998 Olympics, Johnson was seventh despite suffering from the flu bug.

Johnson runs an annual Spring Mogul Camp at Fortress Mountain, Alta., and also coaches for a program called Smart Mogul Skiing in Whistler, B.C.
