Small in stature but big in courage, Nicolas Fontaine is considered the ace of the "Canadian Air Force". That's the nickname for the powerful Canadian men's team in aerials, one of two freestyle skiing events on the Olympic schedule. Fontaine executes some of the most demanding acrobatics in the sport.

He has competed a three Olympics winning the silver in 1992 when freestyle was a demonstration event in Albertville. He was the world champion in 1997 and claimed the overall World Cup aerials title four consecutive seasons (1996-97 to 1999-2000). In his career he has compiled 12 World Cup wins and 35 medals.

Last season he won the World Cup event at the Olympic venue in Deer Valley, Utah. But a few weeks later he was a disappointing 12th at the world championships in Whistler.

At the 1998 Nagano Olympics he was 10th as the Canadian freestyle team surprisingly went medaless at the Games.
