The 2000-2001 snowboard season was one to remember for Jasey-Jay Anderson. It's a winter in which he triumphed on the Continental Cup and World Cup circuits as well as at the world championships. He'll be going for gold in Salt Lake City in the men's parallel giant slalom.

He started the World Cup season with three medal performances in five events. Then Anderson earned his first victory by winning the parallel giant slalom at the Mont-Ste-Anne FIS (International Ski Federation) World Cup.

After the Christmas break, Anderson was dominant. He won five snowboard cross World Cup events between January and March to claim the overall title. Between two World Cup stops, he triumphed in the parallel giant slalom at the FIS world championships held at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy. Two years earlier, he had won the same event at the ISF (International Snowboard Federation) world championships.

With an impressive medal collection, Anderson is primed for an even better season in 2001-2002 which, of course, features the Salt Lake City Games.

"I don't feel any added pressure for this season because of my success last year," said Anderson recently. "I'm just going to do the same as in the past. It's certainly worked because I've improved each year. And if I don't improve this year, then too bad."

Anderson's parents, Jay and Micheline, were both avid skiers and ski instructors. They met on a bench at Mont-Tremblant ski school in the early 70's. His older brother Jayme-Jay was the first family member to discover snowboarding.
