SYDNEY (CP) -- What Canada Did at the Olympics on Friday:
CANOE-KAYAK
Flat Water
Men's C-1 500m: Maxime Boilard, Lac-Beauport, Que., placed first in semifinal heat, advanced to final.
Men's C-2 500m: Attila Buday and Tamas Buday, Mississauga, Ont., finished seventh in semifinal heat, eliminated.
Men's K-1 500m: Mihai Apostol, Dartmouth, N.S., was seventh in semifinal heat, failed to advance.
DIVING
Men's platform: Alexandre Despatie, Laval, Que., placed eighth in semifinal, advanced to final; Christ Kalec, Laval, wound up 17th in semifinal, eliminated.
RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
Individual all-round: Emilie Livingston, Toronto, finished 18th in second-day qualifying, eliminated.
SAILING
Open Star: Ross Macdonald, Vancouver, and Kai Bjorn, Montreal, were eighth after 10 races.
Open Laser: Marty Essig, Carlisle, Ont., wound up 24th overall.
Women's Europe: Beth Calkin, West Vancouver, B.C., wound up 11th overall.
Men's Finn: Richard Clarke, Toronto, was 17th after nine races.
SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING
Team: Catherine Garceau, Toronto; Claire-Carver-Dias, Mississauga, Ont.; Erin Chan, Calgary; Fanny Letourneau, Deux-Montagnes, Que.; Jacinthe Taillon, St-Eustache, Que.; Jessica Chase, Montreal; Kirstin Normand, Edmonton; Lyne Beaumont, Pont-Rouge, Que., and Reidun Tatham, Calgary, won bronze medal.

Men's 50km walk: Tim Berrett, Edmonton, and Arturo Huerta, Toronto, both disqualified in final event.
Men's 400m relay: Brad McCuag, Calgary; Glenroy Gilbert, Ottawa; Pierre Browne, Toronto, and Adrian Woodley, Toronto, finished sixth in semifinal heat, eliminated.
Men's 1,500m: Kevin Sullivan, Brantford, Ont., placed fifth in final.
Women's 400m relay: Atia Weekes, Calgary; Esi Benyarku, Toronto; Tara Perry, Coquitlam, B.C., and Martha Audusei, Toronto, tied for 15th overall in first-round heats, failed to qualify. Karlene Haughton, Calgary; Ladonna Antoine, Regina; Foy Williams, Toronto, and Samantha George, Brampton, Ont., finished fifth in first-round heat, eliminated.

58-kg: Gia Sissaouri, Montreal, lost first-round bout, eliminated from medal competition.
