SYDNEY (CP) -- What Canada Did at the Olympics on Thursday:
BASKETBALL
Men: Canada lost 68-63 to France in quarter-final game; advances to playoff for seventh or eighth place.
CANOE-KAYAK
Men's C-2, 1000m: Attila Buday and Tamas Buday, Mississauga, Ont., finished in a tie for second in semifinal heat, advanced to final.
Women's K-4 500m: Carrie Lightbound, Mississauga; Julie Rivard, North Bay, Ont.; Kamini Jain, Calgary, and Marie-Josee Gibeau-Ouimet, Lachine, Que., were third in semifinal heat, advanced to final.
DIVING
Women's 10m synchronized platform: Emile Heymans and Anne Montminy, Montreal, won silver medal.
Women's 3m springboard: Blythe Hartley, Vancouver, finished 10th in final.
EQUESTRIAN
Team jumping: Ian Millar, Perth, Ont.; Jay Hayes, Cheltenham, Ont.; John Pearce, Stouffville, Ont., and Jonathan Asselin, Calgary, finished ninth in final.
Individual jumping: Millar, on Dorincord, was fourth after final qualifying round, advanced to final; Asselin, on Spirit, was 44th in qualifying, advanced to final; Pearce, riding Vagabond, was 62nd in qualifying, eliminated; Hayes, on Diva, was 63rd in qualifying, eliminated.
FIELD HOCKEY
Men: Canada def. Poland 3-2 in classification game, advancing to ninth-place playoff against Spain.
RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
Individual all-round: Emilie Livingston, Toronto, was 19th after first two of four events.
SAILING
Women's Europe: Beth Calkin, West Vancouver, B.C., was 12th after nine races.
Open Laser: Marty Essig, Carlisle, Ont., was 26th after nine races.
Men's Finn: Richard Clarke, Toronto, was 15th after seven races.
Open Star: Ross Macdonald, Vancouver, and Kai Bjorn, Montreal, were seventh after seven races.
SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING
Team: Catherine Garceau, Toronto; Claire-Carver-Dias, Mississauga, Ont.; Erin Chan, Calgary; Fanny Letourneau, Deux-Montagnes, Que.; Jacinthe Taillon, St-Eustache, Que.; Jessica Chase, Montreal; Kirstin Normand, Edmonton; Lyne Beaumont, Pont-Rough, Que., and Reidun Tatham, Calgary, were third after technical routine, advanced to final.
