SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Sydney Olympic organizers said they sold $30 million worth of tickets in the last round of offers, but still need to raise $100 million from ticket sales to make their budget.
Michael Eyers, deputy chief executive for the Sydney Organizing Commitee for the Olympic Games, said about two million Olympic tickets were available for events in Sydney and 700,000 for soccer in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide.
A month-long promotion through News Limited newspapers concluded in Australia last week, and the remainder of tickets will be sold initially through a call center, then later through box offices and the Internet.
Sales on the Internet begin June 24.
