Greg Newton played with international basketball legend Oscar Schmidt on Flamengo Petrobras in Brazil during the 1999-2000 season. He has also had international stops in Israel and Belgium.

  At the 1998 world championships he was fourth in rebounding averaging 10 per game. Newton graduated from Duke University in 1997 with a major in history. He averaged 15 points and seven rebounds in his senior year and reached the Final Four as a freshman.
