The younger half and front end of the powerful C-2 crew with his brother Attila, Tamas Buday Jr., was born only a few weeks before his father captured two medals for Hungary at the Olympic Games in Montreal. Earlier this year in the very same basin, the Buday brothers qualified for their second Olympic Games winning a sudden-race for the spot against Richard Dalton of Halifax and Mike Scarola of Dartmouth.

  The Budays placed fourth at the world championships last year and are considered a medal contender at the Sydney Games. They came a little too close to not making the team at the trials. "I was physically but especially mentally exhausted after that race," said Tamas Buday Jr, a a world junior champion in 1992 and a double World Cup junior champion in 1994. "But it was nice to see us respond so well to the pressure. We feel we have the capabilities to win a medal in Sydney."

  Tamas is enrolled in a firefighting program at Sheridan College.
