SYDNEY - (singles) Kara Solmundson vs. Indonesia's Lidya Djaelawijaya; (mixed doubles) Solmundson and Mike Beres vs. Marie-Helene Pierre and Stephan Beeharry, Mauritius, 6:05 a.m.
Winnipegger Kara Solmundson never expected to play at 10 o'clock at night at the Olympics, but she expects her mixed doubles match with partner Mike Beres against Pierre and Beeharry of tiny Mauritius (where?) to be the least worrisome of her doubleheader today.
"I have never played the Indonesian woman and don't know a lot about her," said the 26-year-old. "But Indonesia is a strong badminton country, and I expect a tough match."
If Djaelawijaya wins, it could possibly set up a match with Thailand's Sujitra Eakmongkolpaisarn, which Don Wittman agreed yesterday would be a play-by-play guy's worst nightmare.
Solmundson ripped a 10-cm tear in a calf muscle five weeks ago that hindered her preparation for the Games, but she says she's pain-free and ready to go now.
