LONDON, Ont. (CP) -- Two members of the national badminton team named in May to compete in the upcoming Sydney Olympics were ruled ineligible Thursday.
 
 Charmaine Reid of St. Catharines, Ont., and Denyse Julien of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., were deemed not to have achieved the Canadian Olympic Association standard following a conference call involving the players, their lawyers, the COA, Badminton Canada and adjudicator Richard McLaren of London,
 
 "These are always difficult decisions," said McLaren, who recently ruled that controversial "shark's skin" swimsuits are acceptable for Olympic competition after the Australian Olympic Association sought arbitration. "The athletes had met the Badminton Canada standard and the International Badminton Federation standard, but had not met the COA standard."
